Student Gathering Platform — 2024
01 — Context
The project reclaims an underutilized rooftop at PSU and repositions it as an active student gathering environment.
Located in Riyadh’s extreme climate, the primary challenge was transforming exposed roof space into a socially viable and thermally moderated platform.
02 — Concept
The intervention introduces a structured shading system and spatial platform strategy that redefines the roof as an elevated civic plane.
Rather than treating the roof as leftover space, the project frames it as an architectural opportunity for social density, environmental response, and structural clarity.
03 — System Logic
• Elevated gathering platform integrated into existing roof slab
• Modular shading structure optimized for Riyadh sun angles
• Riyadh stone surfaces for thermal mass and contextual continuity
• Circulation redefined to encourage movement and informal congregation
• Climate-driven spatial hierarchy between shaded and open zones
